Have you ever had the first day jitters? Ever been completely nervous to be in a new situation, with new people? Whether it’s your first day at a new school, a new job, a new department or the first time you step into the gym alone, you will or have probably suffered from what I like to call the “First Day Jitters”.
Every week or two here at Incept, we have people who are going to be put into a brand new situation (to them) where they meet in the classroom with a group of people that they have likely never seen before. This is what we like to call the first day of training. It is then our job to make them feel at home, as well as prepare them for the job they will be doing.
For those of you who have gone through training recently, I can imagine you still remember how you felt that first day. Those of you, like me, who have been here for some time now may not recall it as clearly, but I’m sure you can recall a situation where you felt those nervous jitters.
For me, the most memorable situation was the first day of the first training class I taught. I can’t recall a moment I have ever been so nervous. I had shadowed Brian for quite a few classes – and assisted with many more – before the class that will always be remembered as my first class. But as 5:30 p.m. grew nearer that day, I felt quite a bit of self-doubt. I had no choice but to push those feelings aside and move past it, because my co-workers were counting on me. So I did. It was a great feeling to watch and assist the class that started as strangers grow into a family. Getting over your jitters will allow you to have a similar outcome.
When entering into a new situation, you really have control over one thing: your attitude. Yes, you are in a new place, with new people, doing something new to you, which gives you every reason to be nervous or scared. There is no denying that. But here with us at Incept, we will do our very best to turn this job into so much more than that for you. By having a positive attitude, you allow yourself to go much further and to ask for the help you need when you need it.
In training, we will give you our undivided attention, do our best to make sure we teach you to the best of our abilities, and will do everything we can to make you feel welcome and comfortable here. After training, your coaches, supervisors and even us (your trainers), will do our best to assist you in every way that we can.
Outside of training, when you come in for your first full shift, it can be a little nerve-racking, because you will see a lot of people maybe you hadn’t noticed before. The best thing you can do is be yourself, and when you need help, just ask. We will help you.
It doesn’t matter where you go in this company, any time you need a helping hand, someone will be there for you. All you have to do is ask.
